QUILT SERIES

I was born and raised in Virginia and have always felt completely American, but there was something so beautiful and exotic to me that I would often see in the homes of non-Filipino friends: quilts. Handmade and passed down through generations, I've always loved learning about the design motifs, and the family histories found in every loving stitch. No one in the Philippines needs or uses quilts, although we have our own rich history of sewing and weaving traditions. I thought about Cinderella, The Three Bears, and other stories I grew up hearing. I never learned any Filipino folktales or fairy tales as a child. Why? The information we absorb greatly shapes us, so what am I? What am I composed of? I'm unfortunately so detached from my roots; how can I reconnect in order to know myself better?
