This one-day class is ideal for both beginning and experienced watercolorists. Working with a limited palette (only 6 colors), instructor Rowena F. Finn will explain the three components of color and take the mystery out of trying to mix exactly the color you need to match what we see in nature. Participants will complete a set of color charts that they can keep and use whenever they're painting on their own. We will also practice color mixing to match various items. Participants are invited to bring in at least three different objects (natural or man-made) to practice color-matching. Instructor will also provide a variety of objects to practice on.

Norfolk Botanical Gardens, Norfolk, VA

$150 for members, $175 for non-members

This weekly class is ideal for both beginning and experienced watercolorists. Instructor Rowena F. Finn will guide students on drawing and painting botanicals from life, with special emphasis on mastering value and capturing the light that glows on top of and through petals and leaves. Preserving the luminosity of the paper's whiteness through transparent layers of watercolor is essential to breathing life into the composition. Participants will work on studies and get a solid start on a more finished composition.
